Fall is just the coziest time of year. But Fall at the farmhouse gives me happy tingles from head to toe.
Cooler weather, a crisp breeze blowing through the trees, chickens clucking and pecking at the bugs, cows mooing in the pasture, and the neighbors goats bleating in the distance… All while I sit and sip some homemade hot chocolate snuggled in my cozy sweaters and blankets.
Ahhh… It is a magical time and place.
At least until it’s time to get the farm chores done. 😉
Decorating A fall Farmhouse Mantle

Decorating for Fall is so very soul-warming. The splashes of muted orange everywhere give me that insta-cozy feel that has me aching for a seat next to the fireplace.
And speaking of… the fireplace is often the focal point of a family/living room. It tends to take center stage. So the decorations put there kinda set the stage and feel for the rest of the home.
Hence, I try to use my most favorite ‘feels’ on the fireplace mantle. My favorite colors, textures, and meaningful pieces go into my fall farmhouse mantle decor. At the same time, one of the things I LOVE about farmhouse life is the simplicity. So that also needs to be represented in my decor. No going overboard. Less is more. 😉
Color and Texture
A key to my fall farmhouse mantle decor is using a good combination of color, as well as some fun texture.
Orange, brown, and a creamy beige are my go-to fall colors. I’m rather traditional in my colors and don’t often branch out into the trendy decor. Every now and then I’ll jump on a trend train, but for the most part I prefer the predictability of my favorites.
And for texture, I love a combination of greenery (which also adds a great farmhouse color), wood, metal, and anything earthy/cozy.

In a recent year, I found these beautiful pumpkins at Hobby Lobby that have a ‘knitted sweater’ look. I absolutely adore them. The color and texture are perfect for my cozy mantle feel. I love it when I find a piece that just instantly says “I belong to you”. (Does anyone else hear the decor at Hobby Lobby talking to them? No? Just me? huh.)
Meaningful Pieces
I also like to make sure I incorporate meaningful pieces on my fall mantle. Not just at holidays, but always. When someone comes into my home, I want it to be clear what’s important to our family.
So I always have something on my mantle that points to our Lord and Savior. He is where the true focus should be.

Be sure to include things on your mantle that are an indication of what’s important & meaningful to you as well. Holidays and holiday decor are all well and good, but if they take away from the things that are most important to you, then it has gone too far. 😉
I love to use quotes on wood blocks or other simple pieces (like the metal “faith” sign). They pull double duty in adding wonderful texture, as well as representing things most meaningful to me. Win win.
The Thanksgiving Banner

And the last bit of fall decor that makes its way onto my mantle each year is our family’s thanksgiving banner. (Incidentally… it can also be switched to read “Giving Thanks”! 😉)
I actually made this banner years and years ago (it’s probably due for an overhaul 😜) using some scrapbook paper for the pennant pieces and my silhouette cutter for the letters. It is absolutely nothing fancy, but it’s a bit of homemade goodness that is special to me.
In just recent years, our Thanksgiving banner has actually turned into a fun family activity that we enjoy… the “12 Days of Thanksgiving”! (Stay tuned for next week when I’ll be sharing that special fun with y’all!… We countdown to thanksgiving with little acts of gratitude each day. 😁) So this little banner represents a lot of fun bonding time for our family as well.
And since we love to share our meaningful experiences with y’all… we’re giving y’all a free printable Thanksgiving banner to add to your fall decor! (And seriously… stay tuned for the countdown fun!)
I tried to make one of the banners as similar as possible to my original banner (just cuz I’m sentimental like that). But I also made a couple of other color options so that hopefully there’s one that will suit your home style and decor.
You’re welcome. 😝
